Since 1966, every 21 March has been commemorated as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, established by the United Nations in remembrance of the massacre in Sharpeville, South Africa. Last year, Pope Francis defined racism as “a virus that quickly mutates and, instead of disappearing, goes into hiding.”
